MLB Rumors: 2023 has been a strange year in the American League Central Division. The Minnesota Twins have had control of first place for the vast majority of the season but the Cleveland Guardians are not too far behind. Outside of them are the Detroit Tigers who are currently sitting with a 44-52 record. They are just five games back in the division.
With the trade deadline a few weeks away it is possible that the Tigers are looking to trade away players that are not controllable beyond this season. Starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen fits that mold and most recently two teams have shown interest in him.
Detroit Tigers pitcher Michael Lorenzen is gaining interest from the Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays (MLB Rumors).
Jon Morosi of MLB Network shared this news on Twitter. He also mentions that the 31 year old is peaking at the right time and that this might maximize his trade value.
Michael Lorenzen’s trade value is peaking at the exact right time.
The Astros and Rays are among the teams considering him at the deadline.
Including today, Lorenzen has thrown 18-2/3 scoreless innings over his last 3 starts for the Tigers. @MLBNetwork @MLB

Overall this season Michael Lorenzen has a 3.75 ERA over 93.2 innings pitched. He signed a one year, $8.5 million deal prior to the start of the season. At this point any acquiring team would only have to pay a portion of that so he wouldn’t be a financial burden for any team to take on.
It will be interesting to see if Michael Lorenzen is traded prior to the August 1 deadline or not.
