For baseball prospects, there’s no such thing as a sure thing. The history of the MLB Draft is littered with prospects who were taken in higher rounds that never panned out. For most baseball fans, keeping up with prospects is an arduous task, with most fans keeping up with just the top prospects. Milwaukee Brewers fans have seen plenty of these prospects come to fruition in recent seasons.
This offseason, there’s one MLB prospect analyst who places a Brewer’s top prospect as a candidate for a breakout season. According to Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline, that prospect is Brewers No. 4 in the organization, infielder Jesus Made.
Brewers Prospect Jesus Made Ready to Breakout
Made, 17, could be following in the footsteps of prospect-turned-big leaguer Jackson Chourio. Like Chourio, Made showed up in a big way in the DSL – his first stop in the Brew Crew’s organization. All told, he slashed .331/.458/.554 with six home runs, nine doubles, and six triples. He even showcased his speed by swiping 28 bags and getting caught only four times.
The switch-hitter entered the system with a power-over hit profile, according to MLB Pipeline. What stuck out to scouts and the Brewers was his overall plate discipline. Sluggers like Eugenio Suarez, Anthony Santander, and, on the extreme end, Joey Gallo are profiles of heavy hitters who prioritize power overtaking four pitches for a walk. Made walked 39 times in 216 plate appearances. For reference, he walked more than 24 of the 129 qualified batters in MLB this season. He did it in just a third of the plate appearances, however.
Prospect Analyst Select Jesus Made to Skyrocket
Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline chose Jesus Made to become the breakout prospect of the minor leagues on a recent podcast with Jonathan Mayo. The two have now talked about this being the “Jackson Chourio” choice when Chourio skyrocketed after his time in the DSL:
“We kind of tackled this in this week’s Podcast episode as Jim Callis and I made our predictions for 2025. This could be called the “Jackson Chourio category.” Not that Chourio was a complete unknown but he started the 2022 season not on the top 100 and ended up the year in the top 10 overall. We unofficially called it “breakout prospect” on the pod and Jim picked another Brewer, Jesus Made, who signed in Jan. 2024, and I like that selection. I chose Kellon Lindsey, the Dodgers’ first-round pick in 2024.”
There’s still plenty of time for Jesus Made to make his mark in the Brewers organization. He is, after all, turning 18 in May. With his ability to play up the middle at shortstop and at third base and a plus arm to do it from the left side of the infield, we may be talking about Jesus Made making the same leap Chourio did in short order.
