Jim Callis, Jonathan Mayo, and Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline recently published an article in which they projected each organization’s number one prospect in spring 2025. They have done this exercise in the past, with some accuracy, and have elected to give it another try. For the Milwaukee Brewers, catcher Jefferson Quero is who they projected to be the top prospect.
MLB Pipeline projects that catcher Jefferson Quero will be the Brewers top prospect in spring 2025.
The Brewers top five prospects currently consist of four outfielders including Jackson Chourio, Sal Frelick, Joey Wiemer, and Garrett Mitchell. The lone non-outfielder is Brice Turang. All five of these players will likely graduate from prospect status by spring 2025, which opens the door for the currently 20 year old catcher in Jefferson Quero.
Quero signed with the Brewers out of Venezuala in 2019 and is currently the teams seventh ranked prospect. His defensive skills behind the dish are great and he also has a cannon for a throwing arm. During the 2022 AFL he threw out 46% of base runners. As a member of Carolina Mudcats (A) and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (A+), he threw out 30% of base runners.
Athletic, good arm. Kid is fun to watch back there. pic.twitter.com/PBdkX1wZjv

Offensively, Quero posted a solid .286/.342/.439 slash in 2022 where he hit 10 home runs, 22 doubles, and collected 57 RBI. He limited strikeouts to less than 20% of his at-bats and was decent at drawing free passes. Right now he has a lot of gap power, but he could become stronger as he continues to mature.
Currently, Quero is viewed as a well rounded catcher. He is still very young and has a lot of development left, but early indications are that he could grow into an every day Major League catcher. It’s great to see him getting attention from MLB Pipeline and hopefully he does become the Brewers top prospect by spring 2025!
