The Pittsburgh Pirates played a mid week series against the Cubs that concluded on Thursday night in Chicago. Upon conclusion of the final game the team boarded a bus and headed north to Milwaukee for their next series was against the Brewers. Unfortunately something was not right with their bus driver.

With a state police escort leading the way for the Pirates team bus, around 11:28 PM the troopers noticed something was not right. Officials said that they saw erratic driving and that the driver was traveling away from the escort. They then stopped the bus on the right shoulder of I-94 northbound at Dempster Street.
Turns out that the Pirates independently contracted bus driver was under the influence of alcohol. Nobody was hurt or injured during the incident.

A state police spokesperson provided the following statement.
“After observing multiple signs of impairment, troopers arrested Funderburke for driving under the influence of alcohol and transported him to Chicago Police Department 16th District.”
Pittsburgh Pirates Senior VP of Communications Brian Warecki also issued a statement on the manner.
“We are deeply concerned regarding what transpired last night. The important thing is that all of our personnel arrived in Milwaukee safely. Buses are contracted out to a local provider, which was consistent with this trip, and we are now in communication with the appropriate parties regarding this matter.”
There has been no indication as to what Funderburke’s blood alcohol content was during the incident.
