Former Milwaukee Brewer shortstop Jean Segura was involved in a trade at the deadline that initially sent him from the Miami Marlins to the Cleveland Guardians. Marlins prospect Kahlil Watson was also involved in the deal in which the acquiring Cleveland Guardians parted ways with Josh Bell.
Upon conclusion of the trade being finalized Robert Murray reported that Jean Segura will be released by the Guardians despite being owed the remainder of his $6.5 MM salary this year, $8.5 MM for 2024, and a $2.0 MM buyout for 2025.
Jean Segura, former Milwaukee Brewers shortstop, was traded by the Miami Marlins and then released by the Cleveland Guardians.

For the Marlins adding Josh Bell helps improve their infield, especially because they parted ways with Garrett Cooper at the trade deadline as well. Miami is in the hunt for a NL Wild Card spot and had been targeting infield help for quite some time.
On the other hand Cleveland shed some of Josh Bells salary and received a former top infield prospect in return. Watson was selected 16th overall in the 2021 MLB draft, but has struggled since starting affiliated baseball. Cleveland has the Twins within sight for the AL Central Division lead, but they also elected to part ways with pitcher Aaron Civale by shipping him to the Rays.
Overall this is an interesting trade for both sides. Miami will see potential benefits right away whereas Cleveland later in the future.
