MLB News: Los Angeles Dodgers leadoff hitter Mookie Betts belted his 30th home run of the season on Sunday, August 7 against the division rival San Diego Padres. This home run moved him into second place for the most 30+ home run seasons as a leadoff hitter.
Mookie Betts, Los Angeles Dodgers leadoff hitter, has the second most 30+ home run seasons of any leadoff hitter (MLB News).
According to Sarah Langs the player with the most 30+ home run seasons as a leadoff hitter is Alfonso Soriano. He accomplished this four different times whereas Mookie Betts now has done this on three occasions. Behind Soriano and Betts is George Springer and Francisco Lindor who each have done this during two different seasons.
At 30 years old Mookie Betts still possess an elite combination of speed, contact, and power. This makes him an ideal leadoff hitter. He is in no danger of losing this position and in the future could surpass Alfonso Sorianio for the most 30+ home run seasons as a leadoff hitter.
For Mookie Betts this is now his fourth season of having 30+ home runs. He did this twice with the Boston Red Sox and now twice with the Dodgers. His career high is 35 long balls and with around 50 games to go in the 2023 season he has a chance to set a new personal best this year.
