MLB News: The Savannah Bananas, an exhibition team based out of Savannah, Georgia, are well known today for their excited ‘banana ball’ type of play that is fast-paced, entertaining, and fun. Prior to being known for banana ball they were a part of the Coastal Plain League which was a summer collegiate league and they had MLB player such as Jonny Gomes, Bill Lee, and Josh Reddick play for them.
On Wednesday, August 3 a former Savannah Banana had a big moment in a MLB game in which he hit a go-ahead grand slam in the ninth inning to propel the Seattle Mariners to a victory over the Los Angeles Angels.
Ex Savannah Banana Cade Marlowe has a signature moment during a Seattle Mariners victory over the Los Angeles Angels (MLB News).
Entering the ninth inning on Thursday night the Mariners trailed the Angels by a score of 1-3. Shohei Ohtani had stolen the spotlight early on in the game as he hit his league leading 40th home run of the game, but had to leave the mound early due to cramping. At the end of the game former Savannah Banana Cade Marlowe came through with the biggest hit of his career.
With the bases loaded and one out recorded in the top of the ninth inning Cade Marlowe stepped into the batters box. After going down 0-2 on back-to-back fastballs he got a third heater that he liked and launched it over the wall for a go-ahead grand slam. The Mariners would hold on to win the game 5-3.
This was just Cade Marlow’s 11th career MLB game. He had been in the Mariners minor league system since 2021 and back in 2018 he was a part of the Savannah Bananas. Baseball has cool stories that happen each year and this is certainly one of them.
