MLB News: Another day, another loss for the Milwaukee Brewers. On Wednesday, the squad suffered a hard-fought 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Washington Nationals. With the win, the Nats have taken the series, 2-1, which is now the second straight series the Brewers have lost after being swept by the Atlanta Braves.
Milwaukee has now lost five out of its last six games.
MLB News: Craig Counsell Gets Brutally Honest on Loss vs. Nationals
It comes as no surprise that Brewers manager Craig Counsell was not at all pleased by the loss. The Milwaukee shot-caller got brutally honest in his assessment of his team’s performance on Wednesday against the Nationals:
“I don’t think we played well enough to win today,” Counsell said, via Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. “We did very little offensively. And then we played poor defense in the last inning. That’s going to get you beat.”
Simply put, the Brewers just weren’t good enough against Washington, and Counsell has no problem calling a spade a spade.
Milwaukee put in a good effort, though, but in the end, it just wasn’t enough to overcome a more determined Washington side:
“We had a big opportunity with the right guys up and we didn’t cash it in,” Counsell said.
MLB News: Craig Counsell ‘Encouraged’ by Return of Brandon Woodruff
The silver lining for the Brewers, though, is that they have been making some moves of late. Milwaukee recently added Carlos Santana and Mark Canha, who will also be joined by reliever Andrew Chafin when the Brewers return to action on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Another noteworthy returnee is pitcher Brandon Woodruff, who was recently removed from the IL. Woodruff put in a noteworthy performance for the Nashville Sounds in the Minor League on Tuesday, which Counsell himself said was a “great” outing.
“I’m very encouraged,” Counsell said. “We’ll get him back to Milwaukee and get some eyes on him and then see what’s next.”
Woodruff won’t come in to save the day for the Brewers, but at least there’s something to look forward to for Milwaukee supporters.
