The Milwaukee Bucks were left with no other choice but to enter the new season with a key member of their coaching staff missing. This is after veteran coach Terry Stotts stepped down from his post as the top assistant to first-year head coach Adrian Griffin just days before the start of the 2023-24 season.
Stotts’ coaching experience was supposed to play a key role for Milwaukee’s coaching staff this season, which is why losing him was a tough blow for the squad.
Terry Stotts May Have Butted Heads With Milwaukee Bucks HC Adrian Griffin
According to multiple reports, Stotts’ resignation came shortly after a high-profile spat with head coach Adrian Griffin. Apparently, Griffin ended up shouting at Stotts in front of the entire team during practice after the latter refused to join the coach’s huddle.
Further reports then emerged about how Stotts and Griffin apparently did not see eye to eye. Stotts reportedly had trouble adjusting to his role as an assistant, which may have resulted in some conflict between himself and Griffin.
Either way, Griffin and his coaching team entered the new campaign with one man down.
Have Bucks Found Stotts’ Replacement?
This could all change soon, though. According to a report by Sportando, the Bucks have set their eyes on Sergio Scariolo, who is currently the head coach of the Spanish National team:
“Former Virtus Bologna coach and current Spain NT coach Sergio Scariolo has received a proposal from the Milwaukee Bucks to return to the NBA and serve as Adrian Griffin’s first assistant coach, as reported by Superbasket,” read the report.
It is important to note that Scariolo has a history with Griffin. Both men served under Nick Nurse with the Toronto Raptors, and both Griffin and Scariolo were part of the team’s historic championship run in 2019.
As the report indicates, Scariolo could come in as Griffin’s first assistant, which means that he will potentially be a direct replacement for Stotts.
