While they won a ring in 2021, the Milwaukee Bucks have had a hard time replicating that success in past seasons. Turns out, losing that window to win another NBA championship has been weighing heavily on the franchise’s fans.
As the 2024-25 season approaches, the Bucks find themselves at a critical juncture. After consecutive first-round playoff exits, many analysts have shifted their view from contenders to pretenders. The Bucks’ struggles have been highlighted by injuries to key players, particularly two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, whose calf injury sidelined him during last season’s playoffs. Additionally, Khris Middleton has faced ongoing health issues since the team’s 2021 championship run.
The team’s aging core raises further concerns. Most of the key players are over 30, creating a sense of urgency regarding their championship window. While younger talents like Andre Jackson Jr. and AJ Green could be poised to step up, they have yet to prove themselves consistently.
Despite these challenges, there are reasons for optimism. The partnership between Antetokounmpo and new addition Damian Lillard has the potential to blossom, as both superstars work on their synergy to create defensive mismatches. Head coach Doc Rivers will play a crucial role in maximizing their skills while integrating the rest of the roster effectively.
Milwaukee Bucks Fans’ Worst Fear Revealed To Be Closing of NBA Championship Window for Giannis Antetokounmpo and Company
The new season is only a few weeks away and the Bucks have a chance to prove that their roster can win it all. On the other hand, Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale explained that the opposite will become the fans’ worst nightmare if it occurs potentially down the line.
The Nightmare: This core’s title window has closed.
Despite deserving to be mentioned as a foremost threat to the Boston Celtics, the Milwaukee Bucks are far from the surest thing among the league’s elite.
Most tend to assume the Damian Lillard fit, the roster continuity and the health at the top will be better. But what if it isn’t? Or what if most of the Big Four start to show their age?
Khris Middleton just turned 33 and is coming off dual-ankle surgery. Brook Lopez is 36. Lillard is 34. There is a chance, if not a likelihood, the best basketball is behind all three.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is the ultimate safety net. He also turns 30 in December and has finished the past two postseasons on the shelf. A similar ending should not be the expectation. But is it out of the question?
Defensively, the Bucks have made some strategic additions, including Delon Wright and Taurean Prince, but questions remain about their ability to contend with elite teams like the Celtics and 76ers. Rivers has sought a more versatile defensive scheme, but Brook Lopez’s limitations could pose challenges.
Ultimately, Milwaukee’s ability to respond to skepticism will determine if they can reclaim their contender status or if doubts about their championship viability will prove accurate. The upcoming season is pivotal for this veteran squad.
