Teams are set to begin their training camp with less than two months to go before the NBA returns. In the case of the Milwaukee Bucks, their roster for their camp has been finalized and it promises to give a glimpse of what the final lineup would be for the upcoming campaign.
The Bucks have revamped their roster for the 2024-25 NBA season following a series of strategic moves in free agency and the draft. They selected combo guard AJ Johnson with their 23rd pick and added big man Tyler Smith at 33. To strengthen their backcourt, they signed veteran guards Delon Wright and Gary Trent Jr., along with wing Taurean Prince.
Damian Lillard remains the only true point guard, a position that posed challenges in last season’s playoffs. The Bucks are counting on Lillard to improve his scoring efficiency after a subpar year, while the new combo guards will help share ball-handling duties.
The wing position is notably deep, featuring Khris Middleton, AJ Green, and Pat Connaughton. However, the competition is fierce, especially for MarJon Beauchamp, who must elevate his performance to secure his place in the rotation.
At the forward spot, Giannis Antetokounmpo is crucial for the team’s success, and they hope for his health throughout the season. Taurean Prince provides valuable versatility, allowing the Bucks to adapt their lineup as needed.
In the frontcourt, Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis lead the way, though Lopez’s age raises concerns about depth. Tyler Smith, as a rookie, may need time to develop before contributing significantly. Overall, the Bucks are poised for a competitive season, aiming for a strong playoff run.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Training Camp Roster Ahead of 2024-25 NBA Season Revealed
Just recently, Milwaukee released an updated roster for their training camp by bringing in a pair of new guys. This can be seen in an article Dalton Sell wrote for Behind the Buck Pass.
“In what has been an incredibly busy offseason for general manager Jon Horst, the Bucks have made a handful of moves through free agency and the draft, patching several roster holes in the process. Most recently, they added two youngsters, James Akinjo and Liam Robbins, via Exhibit 10 contracts, meaning they will likely only join the Milwaukee Bucks for training camp and the preseason,” Sell wrote.
Both newcomers are in strong positions. Akinjo, with the Wisconsin Herd, can learn from offensive star Damian Lillard and defensive expert Delon Wright, alongside other young talents. Robbins will benefit from studying notable bigs Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis, who bring different skills to the frontcourt.
After preseason, both are expected to join Milwaukee’s G-League team in Oshkosh, where their time with experienced veterans should aid their development significantly. In any case, the addition of these guys just completed the team’s training camp roster, giving the Antetokounmpo-led squad a chance to prepare for the upcoming season.
