It’s no secret All-Star forward Khris Middleton has missed some time due to injuries. If he does so again in the coming season, the Milwaukee Bucks may have to start someone else in his place to keep the team in place to compete.
Middleton faced a challenging campaign last season due to persistent health issues, culminating in two ankle surgeries during the offseason. The procedures were deemed necessary after he injured his ankle several months ago, which significantly impacted his performance.
Following the surgeries, which included arthroscopic clean-up operations on both ankles, Middleton has embarked on light court activities in preparation for the upcoming 2024-2025 NBA season. His recovery progress has been promising, with expectations high for his full return to health by the start of the season.
Despite setbacks caused by his injuries, the Bucks star demonstrated resilience and determination throughout the previous season, showcasing his skills and leadership on the court. His pivotal role in the team’s performance, especially during the playoffs, underscored his importance to the Bucks.
Middleton’s ability to overcome physical challenges and deliver standout performances underlines his commitment to the sport and his team. As he gears up for the new season, fans eagerly anticipate his return to the court, ready to witness his continued impact on the game.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Khris Middleton Backup Plan at Small Forward Revealed
While Middleton may potentially miss time due to the rigorous and demanding schedule of an NBA season and the injuries that come along with it, Milwaukee is expected to have a plan in place. According to a report Brian Sampson wrote for Forbes, former Los Angeles Lakers wing Taurean Prince is projected to get the starting small forward job if Middleton remains unavailable.
“Depending on his availability following offseason surgery on both ankles, this is Middleton’s job. He was great in the postseason and still has enough left in the tank to make this work. He’s also unselfish, willingly taking a backseat to Antetokounmpo and Lillard. Suppose he is sidelined to start the regular season (or misses any time as the season progresses). In that case, Prince is a natural fit to slide into this starting spot,” Sampson wrote.
Over the course of his eight-season run in the NBA, Prince has averaged 10.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists. He has also shot 42 percent from the field, 37 percent from deep, and 81 percent from the free throw line. Prince is slated to play his first season for head coach Doc Rivers and the Bucks after he was signed as a free agent during the offseason.
Although Middleton is still the best man for the job, Bucks fans can rest easy knowing a veteran like Prince is around to start with the duo of Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo. With him in the starting lineup, Milwaukee can retain some sort of consistency, especially in the small forward position.
