Patrick Beverley’s decision to play in Israel has left the Milwaukee Bucks’ backcourt depleted. If the front office wants to remedy that problem, they may consider pursuing Kris Dunn from the Los Angeles Clippers before the trade deadline.
Dunn gained recognition as a standout player during his time at Providence College. After an accomplished college career, he was selected fifth overall in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The guard began his professional career with the Timberwolves, where he showcased his potential, contributing significantly in his rookie season. However, in 2017, he was traded to the Chicago Bulls, where he further developed his skills as a point guard. During his tenure with the Bulls, Dunn had notable performances, including a career-high 32 points in a single game.
In 2020, he signed with the Atlanta Hawks, but injuries limited his contributions to just a handful of games. Following his time in Atlanta, Dunn moved through various teams, including stints with the Agua Caliente Clippers and the Portland Trail Blazers. He also played for the Capital City Go-Go and the Utah Jazz, where he found renewed form.
A couple of months ago, the guard joined the Los Angeles Clippers in a sign-and-trade deal involving Russell Westbrook. Known for his defensive prowess and playmaking ability, Dunn continues to be a valuable asset in the league, adapting his game to meet the demands of different teams throughout his career.
The Reason Why Milwaukee Bucks Should Pursue Los Angeles Clippers’ Kris Dunn
According to the latest NBA analysis, the Bucks would do well to acquire Dunn in a bid to improve their backcourt. This is explained in an article by Aitor Darias for Behind the Buck Pass.
“Dunn is a great defender who can put pressure on the ball and is smart and well-positioned off-ball, so he can help and create turnovers. His hustle can win him a lot of 50-50 balls, he can run the open court and he can be useful on offense thanks to his explosiveness.
He can also be both a second-unit player, bringing some energy from the bench, and a starter next to Damian Lillard if the Bucks want to go for a more defensive lineup and use Gary Trent Jr. as a sixth man. Whatever you might want from a backcourt role player in this Bucks team, he can bring it,” Darias wrote.
Last season, Dunn averaged 5.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. The season before that, though, the guard notched 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.6 assists in 22 games for the Jazz. His performance during that period may present an opportunity for the Bucks to get a boost to their championship aspirations.
It remains to be seen whether the Bucks can get Dunn from the Clippers or not. If they do, expect their lineup to be more dangerous when the new NBA season starts.
