Although his current deal with the Milwaukee Bucks just ended, Patrick Beverley remains an intriguing player to keep for next season. As it stands, retaining the veteran guard will be more advantageous for the team.
Beverley started his NBA career as a backup point guard for the Houston Rockets during the 2012-13 season after spending three years playing in Europe. Since then, he has bounced all over the league for teams like the Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, and Philadelphia 76ers.

Before the trade deadline ended this year, the Bucks acquired Beverley to boost the team’s defense. The veteran guard was able to help in that regard, and even provide leadership in the playoffs after the All-Star duo of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard missed some time due to injuries.
However, the absence of these key players proved to be the key factor in the Bucks’ first round exit against the Indiana Pacers in the playoffs. Nevertheless, Beverley still performed well in the postseason with averages of 8.2 points on 36 percent shooting from deep, 3.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and a single steal per game.
Milwaukee Bucks Projected To Retain Patrick Beverley For Next Season

Even though Beverley is a magnet for controversy, the advantages he brings to the table is more than worth it for the Bucks. Dalton Sell’s article for Behind The Buck Pass detailed why Milwaukee must do keep the veteran guard for next season.
“Upon coming over at the trade deadline, the veteran guard brought much-needed doses of intensity and perimeter defense. Both of those attributes helped him work his way into the starting five by the end of the regular season. Milwaukee’s need for defense and intensity won’t be going away anytime soon, so retaining Beverley would be a reasonable move.
One potential objection to keeping Beverley is the fact that he will be 36 soon. For a writer who has clamored for more youth time and time again, wanting to retain him may seem puzzling. However, Beverley is among a few veterans who have proven they can help this team despite their age, which was on display to close the season,” Sell wrote.
Over the course of his NBA career, Beverley boasts a 1.2 defensive box score, making him very effective on that end of the court. With All-Star guard Damian Lillard running the offense, the Bucks need an experienced vet who can defend well from the backcourt.

It remains to be seen where Beverley will end up in the coming months. Nevertheless, the veteran guard can definitely be a boon for the Bucks if he chooses to stay with the team.
