Even though he’s watching the NBA playoffs from home, veteran guard Patrick Beverley still has a lot of insight to offer right now. The thing is, the Milwaukee Bucks guard received a lot of backlash for snubbing Luka Doncic in his ranking of the postseason’s most skilled players.
Last season, the Dallas Mavericks traded for Kyrie Irving to pair him with the Slovenian star. While they didn’t make the playoffs last year, their pairing on the court has been devastating for most of the regular season.
Unlike other teams, though, the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led team was effective in defeating Doncic and the Mavericks during the two games they played in the regular season. During those matches, the All-Star guard averaged 37.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 10.0 assists against the Bucks. Nevertheless, both contests ended in a loss for Dallas.
By the end of the regular season, Doncic led the NBA in scoring by dropping 33.9 points on a nightly basis while making 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists along the way. His immense talent on offense helped lift the Mavericks up in the Western Conference with a record of 50 wins and 32 losses. Even though his numbers have dipped a bit in the playoffs, his impact for Dallas on the court still can’t be denied.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Patrick Beverley Receives Backslash For Snubbing Luka Doncic in NBA Playoff Ranking
Just recently, Beverley listed the most skilled players in the playoffs right now. Surprisingly, the feisty guard left Doncic out of his list, leading to a barrage of negative reactions on social media.
“Stop disrespecting Luka man,” RiccoSports tweeted.
“You misspelled Luka Doncic,” Jon Noble said.
“No Luka? @patbev21 is high,” Teeohhdouble reacted.
“Luka should be on this team,” Samuraijrussell posted.
“No Luka is racist and incorrect,” Voice of Reality stated.
Over the 10 games Doncic has played in the postseason, the Dallas star averaged 26.7 points, 9.6 rebounds, 8.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. The Mavericks are also currently tied with the Oklahoma City Thunder in their series against each other.
Without a doubt, Doncic is one of the best players in the postseason right now. Only time will, though, whether Beverley was correct in excluding him or not.
