After winning a ring with the Milwaukee Bucks, Axel Toupane has found a way to continue his basketball career. As it stands, the small forward has signed with Diablos Rojos to keep on playing the sport in Mexico.
Toupane, a French professional basketball player, has had a diverse and dynamic career since his debut in 2011. He began with SIG Strasbourg, where he progressed from the under-21 team to the senior squad, showcasing his potential in the LNB Pro A. His early seasons included contributions to Strasbourg’s success, including winning the French Cup and Leaders Cup in 2015.
In 2015, Toupane signed with the Toronto Raptors but was waived shortly after. He found a home with Raptors 905 in the NBA Development League, where he made a significant impact, earning the title of Most Improved Player in 2016. His NBA journey continued with a brief stint at the Denver Nuggets, where he debuted in March 2016.
Toupane’s career also included time with the Bucks and the New Orleans Pelicans, as well as international experiences with teams like Žalgiris in Lithuania and Olympiacos in Greece. In 2021, he returned to the Bucks, contributing to their NBA Championship victory that season.
Toupane signed with Metropolitans 92 in the French LNB Pro A after playing for Paris Basketball. His versatility as a shooting guard and small forward, combined with his international experience, has solidified his reputation in professional basketball. Toupane continues to represent France on the international stage, adding to his impressive basketball resume.
Former Milwaukee Bucks Forward Axel Toupane Signs With Mexican Basketball Club
After his stints in the NBA and other countries, Toupane found a new home in Mexico. According to an article posted on Newsweek, the former Bucks forward has signed up with Diablos Rojos.
“Per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the 6-foot-7 swingman is signing on with the Diablos Rojos of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional in Mexico. The turnaround between the announcement and his first game is brisk. Fischer revealed the news on Friday, and Toupane is slated to make his debut with his new team on Saturday, during the Copa Value tournament,” the article stated.
During his time playing in the NBA, Toupane averaged 3.1 points and 1.2 rebounds. In between seasons playing for the Denver Nuggets, Milwaukee Bucks, and New Orleans Pelicans, the small forward also had stints in Spain, Greece, and Lithuania.
Toupane will bring a wealth of NBA experience with him to Mexico, most notably during his time playing for the Bucks. Hopefully, the forward gets to contribute well in his new team’s championship pursuit.
