Even with all of his accomplishments for the Milwaukee Bucks, there’s an argument to be made that Khris Middleton is way past his use for the franchise. In this regard, the front office may make a move for Jerami Grant in an intriguing trade proposal for both players.
Middleton made a significant decision this offseason by undergoing two successful arthroscopic surgeries to address ongoing ankle issues. After a challenging 2023-24 season, during which he missed 19 games due to a left ankle injury, the forward prioritized his health. The first surgery was performed shortly after the playoffs to repair damage from a sprain he suffered in February. A subsequent procedure targeted lingering problems in his right ankle.
Despite these setbacks, Middleton demonstrated resilience during the 2024 NBA Playoffs, averaging 24.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game while shooting nearly 50% from the field. His ability to elevate his game in high-pressure situations helped alleviate concerns about his form post-injury.
As he prepares for the upcoming season, Middleton’s recovery appears promising. Reports indicate that he is walking without pain and has begun light court activities, suggesting he could be ready for training camp. This would be a positive sign for the Bucks, who will rely on his contributions to maintain chemistry among their core players, including two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Milwaukee Bucks Swap Khris Middleton for Jerami Grant in Wild Trade Proposal
Although Middleton’s contributions to the organization can’t be denied, there’s an argument to be made of his productivity on the court. According to an article written by Franco Luna for Behind the Buck Pass, the front office may get Jerami Grant for Middleton. This will involve the Golden State Warriors in a proposed three team trade that will see Moses Moody and Andrew Wiggins go to the Portland Trail Blazers.
“On paper, this potential trade would send shockwaves through the NBA landscape right off the bat. Middleton, a cornerstone of the Bucks’ championship core, has been instrumental in their success. His ability to score, facilitate and defend at a high level has made him an indispensable asset.
However, the allure of a defensive upgrade in Grant, coupled with Middleton’s injury history as of late, presents a compelling case for change as the Bucks look to maximize the final years of Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo’s athletic primes,” Luna wrote.
While his defensive skills have waned with age, his length and basketball IQ still allow him to impact opponents effectively. On the other hand, Grant’s averages of 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists last season may benefit Milwaukee more for its quest to become champions again.
Of course, it would be a different story if the front office goes ahead and acquires Grant. If that happens, expect a lot of eyes to be on the Bucks to see if they made the right move.
