With the expiration of Patrick Beverley’s contract and his subsequent departure to Israel, the Milwaukee Bucks’ backcourt feels more depleted more than ever. In this regard, a mock trade to acquire Keon Ellis from the Sacramento Kings might be the solution the franchise is going to need.
The Kings have found a promising talent in Ellis, who has emerged as a key player for the team this season. Undrafted out of Alabama, Ellis initially signed a two-way contract, but his impressive performances in the G League earned him a standard contract, reflecting his growing importance within the organization.
Standing at 6’6″, Ellis has shown remarkable versatility on both ends of the floor. His defensive skills are particularly noteworthy; he can guard multiple positions due to his size and athleticism. With both Kevin Huerter and Malik Monk sidelined by injuries, Ellis has stepped into a starting role, showcasing his ability to contribute significantly even in high-pressure situations. For instance, he scored 26 points and hit eight three-pointers in a recent game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, highlighting his offensive potential.
Despite averaging a modest 4.6 points per games, Ellis’s impact goes beyond the box score. His high-intensity defense has made him a valuable asset, especially as the Kings look to solidify their roster. The presence of Ellis is particularly beneficial given that fellow guard Davion Mitchell has struggled to meet expectations as a primary ball-handler.
Milwaukee Bucks Land Keon Ellis in Mock Trade With Sacramento Kings
Ellis’ emergence in Sacramento has not gone unnoticed. According to an NBA mock trade by Behind the Buck Pass’ Dalton Sell, Milwaukee can acquire the Kings guard for MarJon Beauchamp and a pick swap in 2031.
“There’s plenty to like about Ellis. He’s a 6-foot-6 guard who constantly hustles and makes plays on the defensive end while shooting 42.2 percent from three throughout his first two seasons. He’d be a seamless fit in Milwaukee, providing defensive help on the perimeter, particularly in lineups alongside Damian Lillard, where Ellis could remove sizeable pressure off of Lillard’s shoulders,” Sell wrote.
Ellis’ impact has been apparent in the short time he is on the court. If he goes to Milwaukee, the guard can have a larger role playing beside All-Star Damian Lillard in the backcourt and being coached by Doc Rivers throughout the season. In effect, he can get more minutes to prove his worth for a larger contract.
It remains to be seen whether Milwaukee makes a move for Ellis or some other team might swoop in to get him. In any case, the front office will have to keep an eye on his development to determine if he’ll make a good fit in the Bucks or not.
