Justice Winslow had a solid stint playing for the Miami Heat a few years ago. He could provide the same impact for Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks as the Eastern Conference team is aiming to finish better than they did last season.
Winslow was selected 10th overall by the Miami Heat in the 2015 NBA Draft after a successful college career at Duke University. As a rookie with the Heat in 2015-16, Winslow earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors, contributing as a defensive stopper and versatile wing player.
He dealt with injuries over the next few seasons, missing significant time due to a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Despite the setbacks, Winslow showcased his all-around game, setting career-highs in points, rebounds, and assists.
After four seasons with the Heat, Winslow had brief stints with the Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Clippers, and Portland Trail Blazers before joining the Raptors 905 in 2023. Throughout his professional journey, Winslow has demonstrated his ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor, using his size, athleticism, and basketball IQ to thrive in a variety of roles.
Why the Milwaukee Bucks Should Consider Justice Winslow For Training Camp
As it stands, the Bucks may have to sign some guys to fill out their training camp needs. In an article written by Dalton Sell for Behind the Buck Pass, Milwaukee may want to consider Winslow.
“On paper, Winslow is exactly the type of player the Bucks could use. He’s incredibly versatile and can play shooting guard, small forward and power forward, utilizing a sturdy 6-foot-6, 222-pound build to switch onto opponents and hold his own defensively. Offensively, he’s never been much of a scorer, but he can occasionally put the ball in the hole and is a strong secondary facilitator.
The big problem with Winslow is injuries. Over his last four NBA seasons, he appeared in a combined 114 games, spending plenty of time on the sidelines. Bringing in an oft-injured player might seem like a puzzling move for the Milwaukee Bucks, given how injured they have been over the past few years, but perhaps they could believe in Winslow’s potential and are willing to risk it,” Sell wrote.
Over the course of eight seasons, Winslow averaged 8.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. With him in the the lineup, Milwaukee gains a talented defender who can create plays for his teammates from the bench.
It remains to be seen whether the Bucks sign Winslow or not for training camp. With his set of skills, there’s sufficient reason for the front office to take a look at the former Heat star.
