One of the biggest storylines for the Milwaukee Bucks earlier in the summer did not involve any of its players. It was, in fact, about general manager Jon Horst and his supposed move to the Detroit Pistons.
According to reports, the Bucks refused to let Horst leave, and they blocked what would have been a big-money move to Detroit.
Horst himself has now broken his silence on the issue as he looks to clear the air and move on from what turned out to be a pretty eventful summer for him.
Milwaukee Bucks News: Jon Horst Gets Real on Botched Pistons Move
Horst confirmed in a recent interview that the Bucks never gave him the chance to even discuss a potential move to the Pistons.
“I never spoke to the Pistons,” he told Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “The Bucks didn’t allow me to, but they also expressed why they made that decision and how much they value me and want me here in Milwaukee, so it was pretty quick on my end.
“When the Pistons came to the Bucks about their interest in me, I had a brief conversation with our ownership group, they told me how they felt and how they were going to approach it and very quickly, our conversation shifted to the team this offseason.”
The Bucks clearly had no intention of letting Horst walk away, and they made this abundantly clear to him from the get-go.
At the end of the day, Horst is contractually obliged to the Bucks, which is why any move away from Milwaukee would have had to be sanctioned by the organization. For his part, Horst also made his feelings about the Bucks unquestionably clear.
‘I have great respect for Detroit, but I love Milwaukee and what we’ve built and are continuing to build,” he said. “For as much as it was talked about publicly and written about and all those things, it was really kind of a brief part of my summer.
“I didn’t have any control over it, so I just wanted to focus on our team and make sure I was focused on the right things and how we were going to get better this offseason.”
All this just speaks volumes of how much value Horst holds for the Bucks organization.
