Even though he hasn’t played in the NBA for quite some time now, there’s still something John Wall can offer for any team that signs him up. In turn, the Milwaukee Bucks should give the former All-Star a chance to see what he can do to help the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led squad win a ring next year.
Wall was the first overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft, selected by the Washington Wizards. He made an immediate impact, earning NBA All-Rookie First Team honors in his debut season. He continued to develop, making his first NBA All-Star team in 2014 and being named to the All-Defensive Second Team in 2015.
During the 2016-17 season, Wall had a breakout year, earning his first All-NBA Third Team selection. However, he soon started to deal with persistent injuries, missing significant time over the next few seasons. In 2019, the point guard ruptured his Achilles tendon and was sidelined for over two years.
After the long injury layoff, Wall was traded to the Houston Rockets in 2020. He spent two seasons there before signing with the Los Angeles Clippers as a free agent in 2022. However, he was quickly traded back to the Rockets in early 2023, where he reached a buyout agreement.
The Reason Why Milwaukee Bucks Has To Give John Wall a Chance in Training Camp
Milwaukee’s training camp is about to start soon and the team may need some new guys to come in. According to an NBA analysis by Dalton Sell for Behind the Buck Pass, Wall should be given an invite to participate in the said camp.
“This is not a situation like most other players on this list. John Wall is not an unproven, young player who may be a hidden gem. He’s a five-time All-Star, All-NBA and All-Defensive player who was one of the best point guards in the league at his peak. Injuries ultimately derailed his career, as appeared in 147 games over the last seven seasons, including three seasons where he didn’t play a single game.
Despite missing all of last season, Wall has made it clear that he’s not giving up on getting back into the NBA, saying that he’s willing to accept any role offered to him. With that in mind, the Bucks may make sense as a team willing to take a flyer on him to, at the bare minimum, see what he has left in the tank at 33 years old,” Sell wrote.
Over the course of his career, Wall averaged 18.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 8.9 assists per game. he also shot 43 percent from the field, 32 percent from three, and 77 percent from the free throw line from 2010 to 2023.
Throughout his professional career, Wall has been a dynamic and talented point guard when healthy, making five All-Star teams and earning All-Defensive and All-NBA honors. But he has endured numerous setbacks due to various injuries, preventing him from fully realizing his immense potential at the NBA level.
