Things did not work out according to plan for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo on Sunday as Greece fell in their Olympic opener against Canada, 86-79. This was despite a monster effort from Antetokounmpo, who did all he could to carry his team to victory.
In the end, however, Greece just did not have enough left in the tank to overcome a powerhouse Canada side.
Milwaukee Bucks News: Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Powerful Message
Giannis finished Sunday’s loss with a game-high 34 points on 11-of-17 shooting, five rebounds, two assists, and just one turnover in 33 minutes of action. It still wasn’t enough.
Despite the loss, however, the Bucks talisman sent a powerful message on X, formerly Twitter, to express how proud he is to represent his home nation on the grandest of stages.
“It’s one of the greatest feelings in the world to be able to put on the jersey and play for your country 💪🏾🇬🇷🧿,” Giannis wrote.

There’s no denying, however, that it would have felt much better for Antetokounmpo if the Greeks came out on top. They have an opportunity to mark their first win in the Paris Olympics on Monday when they face off against Spain.
It won’t be a walk in the park by any means, but Giannis and Co. will need to find a way to win if they want to keep their gold medal hopes alive.
