It’s almost close to impossible for the Milwaukee Bucks to trade superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo during his prime with the team. But in an NBA report, a hypothetical trade was created to see what kind of return will the franchise get for the Greek Freak.
The recent blockbuster trade that sent Mikal Bridges from the Phoenix Suns to the New York Knicks in exchange for a haul of five first-round picks has sparked speculation about the potential value of Antetokounmpo.
According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, the Bridges trade has set a new benchmark for elite players, with one of Givony’s NBA insider friends wondering if Giannis could command as many as 10 first-round picks in a hypothetical trade scenario. Givony noted that the Bridges deal, which included four unprotected first-rounders and a protected selection, has been described as one of the largest returns for a player who has never been named an All-Star.
However, if Giannis were to become available, it’s clear that the Bucks could potentially command an astronomical return, potentially eclipsing the Bridges trade and setting a new standard for superstar player transactions in the NBA.
Milwaukee Bucks Projected to Get Significant Haul From Giannis Antetokounmpo In Hypothetical NBA Trade
In the event Milwaukee bites the bullet and trades Antetokounmpo, the franchise is expected to get a big hail in return. This can be seen in an article written by Rudy LB for Behind the Buck Pass.
“Ultimately, if a team were to trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo, they should probably expect to give up seven first-round picks. Behind that you would also expect a team to give up three to four years of second-round picks, giving them no draft picks. Also, you’d have to think a player or two would be involved to help bridge the Milwaukee Bucks into this true rebuilding mode,” LB wrote.
Despite the speculation, Antetokounmpo is currently under contract with the Bucks through the 2026-27 season, with a player option for 2028. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst has also reported that there are no indications the Bucks’ star is considering a trade request.
The combination of Giannis’ elite talent and the league’s rising valuations for top-tier players could make him one of the most coveted assets in the league. If a trade involving him happens, expect the Internet to break down from the sheer amount of reactions to it.
