Even though the Milwaukee Bucks didn’t make it far in the payoffs, there’s no denying how dominant Giannis Antetokounmpo was whenever he stepped on the court. Turns out, he led the NBA in one category. further proving how epic the Greek forward has been last season.
During the 2023-24 NBA season, Antetokounmpo finished fourth in MVP voting, marking the first time since the 2020-21 season that he was not a finalist for the award.
The MVP award went to Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic, who won the honor for the third time in the past four seasons. Jokic received 79 first-place votes and a total of 926 points to easily outdistance runner-up Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks finished a distant third in the MVP voting, while Antetokounmpo came in fourth with 196 points. Despite being the first player to ever average at least 30 points per game while shooting 60% or better from the field, Antetokounmpo was overshadowed by the statistical dominance of Jokic, Gilgeous-Alexander, and Doncic.
While Antetokounmpo continues to put up elite numbers, the emergence of other superstars like Jokic and Gilgeous-Alexander has made the MVP race more competitive than ever in the NBA.

The Bucks saw significant changes, including the dismissal of head coach Adrian Griffin in January 2024, followed by the hiring of Doc Rivers. Despite clinching a playoff berth, Milwaukee was upset in the first round, marking their second straight early postseason exit.
With the NBA set to return soon, Antetokounmpo will have another chance to lead the league in dunks. If he does that and stays healthy, the Bucks will have a solid chance to dominate in the East.
