For the past few weeks, sports card collectors have been hunting a Topps card signed by LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant. This prompted Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo to drop a massive bounty for the card, beating other well-known individuals in the hobby in the process.
Topps has introduced a unique collectible card featuring signatures from basketball superstars James, Curry, and Durant, commemorating their time at the Paris Olympics. This one-of-a-kind card showcases the trio in their Team USA uniforms, celebrating their gold medal achievement. It is being offered to customers who purchase a base card from Topps, providing a rare opportunity for fans and collectors alike.
Clay Luraschi, Topps’ senior vice president of product, emphasized the card’s significance, noting that it captures a historic moment in basketball history. This is the first time all three players have signed the same card, enhancing its rarity. The base card went on sale shortly after the U.S. team secured their victory over France, retailing for $11.99.
Experts estimate the card’s value could be in the six figures, although its worth is somewhat diminished since it is not available through traditional pack pulls. The card is part of Topps Now, a program launched in 2016 that allows for on-demand card production, enabling the company to release items that reflect current sports moments.
In addition to the triple-signed card, Topps has produced various other commemorative cards throughout the Olympics, celebrating key performances and milestones by the U.S. team, further engaging fans in the excitement of the games.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo Drops Massive Bid for LeBron-Curry-KD Topps Olympic Card
At this point in time, several individuals and groups have placed their respective bounties on the sports card. In an article by Paul Kasabian for Bleacher Report, Antetokounmpo’s bid just trumped all the others in the market.
“Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is quite interested in acquiring Topps’ Now’s redemption card featuring the autographs of Team USA teammates LeBron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant.
BreakComp reported the following on Instagram Saturday: “BreakComp is first to report that Giannis Antetokounmpo just commented on our video post that he’s offering to double the highest offer for the triple auto.”
That was in response to Antetokounmpo’s IG comment: “Whatever he does I’ll double it.” There is notably a $500,000 offer out there for the card, per BreakComp.
A bidding war is underway for the James-Curry-Durant card, with offers reaching $500,000. Grand Slam Collectibles initially offered $300,000 but quickly increased their bid. This card marks James’ first Topps autograph and is highly coveted, following Team USA’s gold medal win, with a print run of 588,035.
It remains to be seen what the final price of the card will be when it’s finally pulled by a lucky individual. In any case, Antetokounmpo will be there waiting to see if his bounty is good enough to get it.
