Even though Damian Lillard’s impact on the Milwaukee Bucks can’t be denied, Giannis Antetokounmpo still remains the franchise’s best player. This detail has been backed up and acknowledged in the latest NBA analysis by Bleacher Report.
Antetokounmpo began his professional career with Filathlitikos in Greece before being selected as the 15th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Bucks. Known for his incredible athleticism and versatility, the All-Star foward quickly made a name for himself, becoming an All-Star and leading the Bucks in multiple statistical categories.
His accolades include two NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards, an NBA Finals MVP, and an NBA championship in 2021, marking a significant milestone for the Bucks. Antetokounmpo is also recognized for his defensive prowess, earning the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award in 2020. Over his career, he has been named to several All-NBA and All-Defensive teams, solidifying his status as one of the league’s elite players.
Off the court, Antetokounmpo embraces both his Greek and Nigerian heritage, holding dual citizenship. He has shared his journey from humble beginnings as the son of Nigerian immigrants to becoming a global basketball icon. His life story was depicted in the film Rise, showcasing the challenges he overcame to achieve success.
Bleacher Report Names Giannis Antetokounmpo as Milwaukee Bucks’ Best Player
When it comes to the Bucks, only one player stands out as the best among the rest in the roster – Antetokounmpo. This detail was backed up in the latest NBA analysis by Andy Bailey for Bleacher Report.
“So, best player on the Milwaukee Bucks is sort of a given, especially given the ages of Damian Lillard (34), Khris Middleton (33 and coming off two ankle surgeries) and Brook Lopez (36 and a couple years removed from back surgery).
Even if those three were younger than Giannis, though, he’d be the easy answer. He averaged 30.4 points, 11.5 rebounds and a career-high 6.5 assists in 2023-24. He also had perhaps his most efficient campaign, posting the best true shooting percentage of his career and leading the league in points added (“number of extra points added by True Shot Attempts made above league average”),” Bailey wrote.
Last season, the Greek Freak averaged 30.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game. He also shot 61 percent from the field while making 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks throughout the 73 games he played during the previous campaign.
The upcoming season will be another opportunity for Antetokounmpo to show why he’s the Bucks’ best player. If he lives up to that standard, expect Milwaukee to become serious contenders in the league once again.
