It can be said that Alex Sarr, this year’s prospective number one pick, has a similar game to Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. Among those who this connection and similarity is no other than Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George.
Born in France, Sarr started his basketball journey as part of Real Madrid’s cadet youth team in 2019. Two years later, the seven-foot big man joined the newly-founded Overtime Elite league to secure a way to play professional basketball in the United States.

After spending two seasons playing for Overtime Elite, Sarr signed up with the Perth Wildcats to play in the Australian National Basketball League. In the 24 games he played down under, the potential number one pick averaged 9.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per contest. He also shot 52 percent from the field, 30 percent from beyond the arc, and 71 percent from the free throw line.
Just last month, Sarr declared for the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft. He joins a batch of upcoming rookies, including Purdue big man Zach Edey, Uconn’s Donovan Clingan, Kentucky star Rob Dillingham, and Serbian guard Nikola Topic. He is projected to be selected first by the Atlanta Hawks.
All-Star Wing Paul George Sees Milwaukee Bucks Forward Giannis Antetokounmpo in Alex Sarr

Unlike San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama, Sarr boasts a physical game comparable to the Greek Freak. In an episode of Podcast P with Paul George, the Clippers forward agreed with how the upcoming rookie is being compared to the Bucks star.
“I like the Giannis comparison, I like the Giannis that is one of your favorite players, because I kind of see a similar play style with the ability to get it off the rim, push and transition, handle it, create. I think he’s like him. Giannis is the prototype of a big man that you play through. So I love that comparison. I think he is a lot similar to how Giannis plays, in the play style of Giannis,” George said.
Throughout his career, Antetokounmpo has established himself as an absolute force to be reckoned with, especially on the paint. In the 11 seasons he has played in the NBA, the two-time MVP averaged 23.4 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game.

It remains to be seen how Sarr will perform once he gets drafted by an NBA team. If the Giannis comparisons hold true by then, the young star will have a long and fruitful career ahead of him.
