Giannis Antetokounmpo’s brothers have always made their way to the NBA in one way or another. Alex, the youngest of the Milwaukee Bucks star’s siblings, has gone a different route right now by playing for a new team overseas.
Alex Antetokounmpo, the younger brother of NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, has faced some recent challenges in his professional basketball career. In August 2023, the 22-year-old was suspended by his Lithuanian club, M Basket-Delamode Mažeikiai, for undisclosed reasons.
During his time with the Lithuanian team, he averaged 8.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. He also shoot 51.2% from the field while playing for the Lithuanian squad.
While Alex has the pedigree of being part of the renowned Antetokounmpo basketball family, his performance has not yet translated into an NBA contract. He previously had a stint in the G League with the Wisconsin Herd, where he averaged 5.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game.
Milwaukee Bucks Superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Youngest Brother Signs Up With New Team
Antetokounmpo recently signed a contract with KK Podgorica, a club in Montenegro, for the 2024-25 season, as written by Ben Stinar for Fastbreak on Sports Illustrated.
“On Saturday, it was announced that Antetokounmpo has signed with KK Podgorica (h/t HoopsRumors and BasketNews).
Via Eurohoops Turkiye (translated to English): “🚨 Alex Antetokounmpo, the youngest of the Antetokounmpo brothers, will play for KK Podgorica Bemax of the 2nd Adriatic League next season.”
This move represents a fresh opportunity for the young forward to showcase his skills on an international stage and potentially earn a path to the NBA. Antetokounmpo’s G League stint saw him average 5.0 points and 2.6 rebounds per game, shooting 36.7% from the field and 24.7% from three-point range over 65 games. He now aims to showcase his development with a new opportunity in Montenegro’s KK Podgorica.
As Antetokounmpo prepares for the upcoming season in Montenegro, he will need to demonstrate significant improvement in his shooting and overall game to attract NBA interest. The successes of his brothers, Giannis and Thanasis, in the NBA may provide additional motivation for him to carve out his own identity in the competitive world of professional basketball.
