Although losing Malik Beasley stung, the Milwaukee Bucks still had a good win ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season. From all the moves they made this offseason, the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led squad benefitted a lot from the acquisition of Gary Trent Jr.
Trent is poised to play a crucial role for the Milwaukee Bucks as the season unfolds. Known for his scoring ability and defensive tenacity, Trent brings a dynamic presence to the team. His proficiency in shooting, particularly from beyond the arc, complements the Bucks’ offensive strategy, allowing them to stretch the floor and create opportunities.
However, there are concerns regarding his consistency and defensive matchups. While Trent can light up the scoreboard, his shooting percentages can fluctuate, which might impact the team’s performance during critical moments. Additionally, his ability to guard opposing players effectively will be vital, especially in high-stakes games where defensive lapses can be costly.
The Bucks’ success will hinge on how well Trent adapts to the team’s system and meshes with key players like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. Establishing chemistry will be essential to maximize their collective potential. Trent’s experience in high-pressure situations could prove beneficial, but he must also work on improving his defensive skills to fully contribute to the team’s objectives.
The Milwaukee Bucks’ Biggest Win Ahead of the 2024-25 NBA Season Revealed
During the offseason, Milwaukee signed Trent to play for the 2024-25 season. Dan Favale detailed how this move was the Bucks’ biggest win in an NBA analysis for Bleacher Report.
“Since the 2020-21 season, GTJ is downing over 38 percent of his triples on more than seven attempts per game while posting a steal rate north of two. Only two other players are hitting these benchmarks over the same span: Lonzo Ball, who has appeared in just 90 games amid knee issues, and Paul George.
Can GTJ gamble too much on defense? Is it a stretch to toss him on truer wings? Does he suffer from tunnel vision on drives? Yes, yes and yes. Whatever. Nobody’s perfect. Especially at the minimum. The Bucks are getting, in no uncertain terms, bonkers value here,” Favale wrote.
Just last season, Trent averaged 13.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. He also connected 42 percent of his field goals, 39 percent from deep, and 77 percent from the free throw line for the Toronto Raptors.
As the season progresses, the Bucks will look to Trent not just for scoring but also for his ability to make timely plays on both ends of the court. If he can address these concerns, his impact could be significant, helping the Bucks in their pursuit of another championship.
