It wasn’t just in their roster that the Milwaukee Bucks made changes in the offseason. The front office also made sure to equip the team with the best possible coaching staff in the league, which of course, has Doc Rivers sitting at the helm.
The players can only do so much on the basketball court, and it goes without saying that the coaches play an undeniably pivotal role in whatever level of success this team will achieve.
Milwaukee Bucks News: GM Jon Horst Speaks on Doc Rivers’ Coaching Staff
Experience is a key element in Rivers’ staff. It’s not enough that Rivers himself has two and a half decades of NBA coaching tenure under his belt. The Bucks went out and made sure that they would have one of, if not the most experienced coaching staff in the entire league.
According to general manager Jon Horst, however, it’s Rivers who will always play the most important role.
“Obviously, it starts with Doc and his ability,” Horst said. “People have a huge respect for him across the league. Coaches do. Coaches want to coach for him and with him and also learn from him. I’ve felt that here in our time together so far, It’s obvious. So I think it starts with that.”
At the same time, Horst is extremely confident about the people Rivers has around him. The 62-year-old shot-caller can’t do it alone, and he has an excellent group of coaches behind him to help him achieve his goals with the team.
“You have Doc Rivers as your head coach,” Horst continued. “Darvin Ham, who led his team in tough circumstances to a conference finals. Dave Joerger, who has led his teams deep in the playoffs and has hundreds of wins as a head coach in the NBA. Greg Buckner, who’s probably one of, if not the, most respected top assistants and defensive minds in the game.”
Horst also had some high praise for the rest of the coaching staff, which includes Rex Kalamian, Joe Prunty, and Vin Baker, to name a few.
According to Horst, he’s confident that Milwaukee’s coaching staff is as good as any in the league.
“I’ve spent a lot of time with all of them,” he said. “It’s one of the greatest groups of professionals and people that I’ve ever been around. They’re just really high energy, positive, curious, creative people, so I love the group of adults and professionals that we have from a playing perspective, a coaching perspective, front-office perspective.”
