It’s no secret that the Milwaukee Bucks had a horrendous run this season, especially their early exit at the hands of the Indiana Pacers. For this reason, head coach Doc Rivers revealed the extent of his work to prepare the team for the 2024-25 season.
During the previous offseason, Milwaukee’s front office decided to blow up the league by trading for All-Star guard Damian Lillard. In exchange, they sent out a package consisting of Jrue Holiday, Grayson Allen, and a collection of draft picks in a three-team deal involving the Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns.
As the season went on, the Bucks were just behind the top-seeded Boston Celtics in the standings in second place. They also boasted a top two offense but languished in the bottom half of the league when it came to defense. But even if the team was performing well, Adrian Griffin was still let go before the All-Star Weekend.
This resulted in Milwaukee hiring Doc Rivers to coach the team. However, by the end of the regular season, his record ended with 17 wins and 19 losses. This is in stark contrast to Griffin who had a 30-13 record with the team. Add their disappointing playoff run this year, and there’s bound to be a lot of changes for the Bucks before the offseason is over.
Doc Rivers’ Milwaukee Bucks Preparation Plan for 2024-25 Season
After downsizing the Bucks’ coaching staff, Rivers still has a lot of work to do in the coming months. The one-time Coach of the Year revealed his thoughts in an article written by Ben Steele for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
““This summer is a very important summer for us. I have a lot of work to do,” Rivers said. “I’m going to take a break at some point, but not right away. Right now, I have some work to do that I have to get things right to make sure we’re ready for next year,” Steele said.
Due to Rivers assuming the post halfway through the season, there were a lot of hurdles that the team never overcame. Add several injuries to key players in the roster, like Antetokounmpo and Lillard, and there was little chance to the Bucks to succeed in the playoffs.
With a full offseason ahead, there’s hope Rivers can change the narrative in Milwaukee. If he does, expect the Bucks to dominate when the upcoming season begins.
