During the early 2010s, DeMarcus Cousins was one of the league’s best big men and a standard when it came to dominance. Now, the former Milwaukee Bucks center has admitted that his NBA comeback wo’t happen and he’s okay with that.
After an impressive stint at the University of Kentucky, where he averaged 15.1 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, Cousins declared for the NBA draft and was selected fifth overall by the Sacramento Kings in 2010.
Cousins quickly made a name for himself, earning NBA All-Rookie honors in his first season. Over the years, he became a dominant force in the league, known for his scoring ability and rebounding prowess. From 2015 to 2018, he was selected as an NBA All-Star four times and made multiple All-NBA teams, showcasing his status among the elite players in the league.
His journey included tenures with several teams, including the New Orleans Pelicans, Golden State Warriors, and Los Angeles Lakers. Despite facing injuries that affected his playing time, Cousins continued to demonstrate resilience. He won two gold medals with the U.S. national team, contributing to their success at the FIBA World Cup and the Olympics.
More recently, Cousins has played internationally, joining teams in Puerto Rico and Taiwan. His career, marked by both achievements and challenges, reflects his passion for basketball and commitment to excellence on and off the court.
Why Former Milwaukee Bucks Big Man Demarcus Cousins Is Giving Up on NBA Comeback
Just recently, Cousins opened up about his career and why he’s okay not having the chance to play in the NBA again. In an article posted on Real GM, the former Bucks center said more.
DeMarcus Cousins knows he can still play in the NBA. However, Cousins is done trying to convince NBA teams of that.
“I’m not going to go out trying to convince these guys anymore,” Cousins said. “You know what I bring to the floor. It’s been proven. If you really wanted to know who I am, you’d take the time to get to know me instead of listening to somebody else. I’m past trying to reach out. If an opportunity comes that makes sense, I’ll consider it, but I’m done with the convincing.”
Back in 2022, the Bucks waived Cousins after he averaged 9.1 points and 5.8 rebounds in 17 games following his signing in November of 2021. The decision came as the team approached a deadline to guarantee his contract for the season in a period after the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led team won the ring several months before.
While his career in the league is certainly over, Cousins is using his time to play internationally. In any case, the former All-Star center still had a good run in the NBA and proved to be one of its best stars during his time playing.
