The NBA today is filled with so much talent, both from up-and-coming stars and veterans who have made a name for themselves in the league. For Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard, though, there are five players who stand out from the rest.
Lillard, the veteran point guard for the Bucks, recently revealed his top five current basketball players in a podcast appearance. Topping his list was Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves, whom Lillard praised for his authentic energy and swagger.
Next on Lillard’s list was Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies, who dealt with off-court issues last season but still impressed with his potential. Rounding out the top five were Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks, Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, and two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Doncic led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals while winning the scoring title, Jokic won MVP after averaging an impressive stat line, and Antetokounmpo continued to dominate as one of the league’s top two-way players.
In a separate interview earlier in the year, Lillard revealed his dream NBA starting five, which included himself, Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Bam Adebayo.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Damian Lillard Includes Anthony Edwards In His Top 5 NBA Players Today
Along with Doncic, Morant, Jokic, and Antetokounmpo, the All-Star guard included Edwards. In an article written by Atishay Jain for Sportskeeda, the Bucks star explained his reason why he the Timberwolves guard made it to his list.
“Anthony Edwards, I think everyone super high on him right now but I like him because his energy and his swag is authentic and he got the game to go with it,” Lillard said.
Reflecting on Lillard’s own performance last season, the eight-time All-Star averaged 24.3 points per game in his first year with the Bucks, though the team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. He played well in the postseason, averaging 31.3 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Pacers.
Overall, Lillard’s top 5 list showcases the wealth of elite talent currently in the NBA, with a mix of established superstars and rising young stars like Edwards and Morant. His dream starting 5 also highlights the incredible depth of talent in today’s game.
