Throughout his career in the NBA, Damian Lillard has given it his all to be where he is right now. In turn, the Milwaukee Bucks All-Star guard shared what young hoopers should be investing in their respective careers.
Lillard launched a unique camp called Formula Zero to share the lessons he’s learned on his journey to the NBA. The camp aims to pass on valuable insights to a select group of 40 high school and college basketball players.
The “Formula” in the camp’s name refers to the combination of influences that have shaped Lillard’s development, while “Zero” represents his jersey number. Lillard credits his coaches, mentors, family, and friends for guiding him from his hometown of Oakland, California, to the NBA.
The camp features key figures from Lillard’s life as coaches and mentors, including his longtime trainer Phil Beckner, who encouraged Lillard to become more vocal and share his experiences. Lillard initially hesitated, not wanting to come across as someone who believes they know everything. However, after some reflection, he recognized the value in passing on the lessons he’s learned.
The camp’s curriculum focuses on character development, instilling qualities such as work ethic, humility, discipline, and unselfishness – traits that Lillard believes are crucial for sustained success, both on and off the court. Lillard wants the attendees to view him as a person who has learned from mistakes, rather than just a star athlete with all the answers.
