Thanks to a full offseason of preparation, the Milwaukee Bucks have a chance to make a big impact in the upcoming campaign this year. The thing is, there’s one concern the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led team must resolve right away.
The Bucks are gearing up for the 2024-25 NBA season after finishing the previous year with a disappointing record. However, recent playoff exits have raised questions about whether their championship window is closing.
Having been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs for two consecutive years, the Bucks face pressure to perform. Despite this challenge, Milwaukee bolstered their roster with key offseason additions, including Gary Trent Jr., who brings scoring and defensive skills from his time with the Toronto Raptors.
Other new faces like Taurean Prince and Delon Wright are expected to enhance the team’s depth and versatility. Although the Bucks didn’t make a blockbuster trade this summer, they successfully replaced older players with younger, more dynamic contributors.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Primary Concern for 2024-25 Season Highlighted in NBA Analysis
While the Bucks made some moves to become better, other teams in the Eastern Conference have made more significant strides to compete next season. As such, Zach Buckley’s analysis for Bleacher Report stated that primary concern Milwaukee has to address right away.
“With three years and only a single playoff series win between them and their 2021 title, the Bucks are against the clock. They’ve pulled all the levers they can, throwing caution to the wind with last summer’s deal for Damian Lillard and then tasking Doc Rivers with putting this roster on a championship track.
Milwaukee wilted under Doc’s direction, though, and Khris Middleton once again struggled to stay on the floor. Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo played well together on the strength of their talents, but neither seemed to bring out the other’s best. The Bucks had good stretches last season, but they rarely looked great.
Their core players are mostly in their 30s now—Antetokounmpo will get there in December—and several of them could hit free agency as soon as next summer. This is not only a championship-or-bust season, it’s a now-or-never moment for this nucleus,” Buckley wrote.
Despite a strong start, Griffin was fired mid-season, and Doc Rivers took over as head coach earlier this year. The Bucks finished with a 49–33 record, securing a playoff spot, but were eliminated in the first round by the Indiana Pacers.
Their aging core and the increasing competitiveness of the Central Division, particularly from teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers, complicate their prospects. As Milwaukee approaches the new season, they must leverage their talent effectively to prove critics wrong and reclaim their status as serious contenders in the Eastern Conference.
