Although Bobby Portis has been great for the Milwaukee Bucks, his age might be a detriment to the team moving forward. In that case, getting Los Angeles Clippers’ Terance Mann in this intriguing trade proposal might be the solution for Jon Horst and the front office.
Mann entered the NBA as the Los Angeles Clippers’ 48th pick in the 2019 Draft and from the same class as Memphis Grizzlies’ Ja Morant and New Orleans Pelicans’ Zion Williamson. And like most rookies, the former Florida State star didn’t get to see much action on the court during his first year in the league.
Over the years, though, All-Star forward and two-time NBA champion Kawhi Leonard found himself constantly injured and unavailable for the Clippers. This has been a boon for Mann who then saw his minutes and numbers increase playing alongside Clippers star Paul George.
Now in his fifth year with the Clippers, Mann has climbed up the ranks to be his team’s starting shooting guard. Over the course of his career, the young star averaged 8.2 points on 50 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent from deep, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists.
Milwaukee Bucks Exchange Bobby Portis For Los Angeles Clippers’ Terance Mann in Intriguing Trade Idea
As it stands, Bucks big man Bobby Portis has two years left on his contract with the ability to opt out of the last one. If Milwaukee wants to make their roster younger and more dynamic, especially when it comes to the backcourt, they may consider swapping Portis for Mann in an intriguing trade idea by Jackson Gross for Brew Hoop.
“Mann becomes a substantial upgrade either in the starting lineup over Malik Beasley/Patrick Beverley or off the bench over Jae Crowder and Andre Jackson Jr. Mann averaged 8.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists on shooting efficiencies of 51.5% FG, 34.8% 3PT% and 83.2 FT%. On the defensive end, Mann had a rating of 98.3, while Portis had the second-worst defensive rating on the Bucks (116.0) and Crowder wasn’t too much better (114.6).
While I (and some of my colleagues) believe that Mann has topped out of what his potential could be, I think his play style, athleticism, and production are what the Bucks need over Portis. The wing depth on the Bucks outside of Middleton and Giannis was paper-thin last year with Crowder, Beauchamp, Jackson Jr., Beasley, and Connaughton. Mann raises the floor of the Bucks and allows them to say goodbye to Crowder and potentially Beasley,” Gross wrote.
Over the years, Mann has proven to be a capable defender on one end and someone who can drain buckets if needed on the other end of the court. With him joining All-Star guard Damian Lillard, the Bucks can have a more consistent starting backcourt next season.
It remains to be seen whether the Bucks’ front office will pursue Mann from the Clippers or not. What’s certain, though, is that the franchise may benefit more by trading Portis while the iron is still hot.

The Clippers have resisted trading Mann in the past. They arent moving him straight up for Portis. With how fragile Kawhi and George are, he’s extremely valuable. The only way he’s moved is in a deal for another superstar.
I noticed no discussion about Middleton. Yet he isnthen3rd highest salary on the team. They need to trade him or just get rid of him. He’s getting over $30M for what? Management must get rid of Middleton. They made a huge mistake letting Grayson Allen go, young talent with a good shot. Terrible move..
