Milwaukee Bucks shooting guard Malik Beasley has firmly established himself as one of the most dangerous outside threats in the NBA this season. The fact that he has been knocking down 3.0 triples per game on a dizzying 47.0-percent clip this year is a clear testament to the same.
Apart from being their reliable marksman, however, the Bucks also rely on Beasley to be a defensive cog for their backcourt — a role that he was not able to competently fulfill on Monday in Milwaukee’s 122-113 loss against the Indiana Pacers.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Malik Beasley Plagued by Foul Trouble Vs. Pacers
Beasley finished Monday’s loss with 12 points after knocking down another four triples against Indiana. However, he wasn’t very effective down the stretch on the defensive end. This was because he was dealing with foul trouble toward the latter part of the contest.
“Yeah definitely at the end of the game I wanted to be more aggressive, but obviously fouling – and they knew that as well – they knew I had five fouls, or four,” Beasley said, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I was telling the ref I think a couple of my fouls shouldn’t been called but it is what it is. It happens. I gotta be better defensively, continue that role and make shots when I do get the ball.”
This resulted in Indiana’s backcourt tandem of Tyrese Haliburton and T.J. McConnell dominating the game in crunch time. Damian Lillard did all he could to try and stop Haliburton, but it was clear that the Pacers superstar proved to be too much to handle for Dame.
Beasley isn’t exactly an elite defensive stopper, but he probably would have made an impact late in the game on defense had it not been for his foul trouble. That’s now water under the bridge, though, and the Bucks are now down 3-1 in their season series against the Pacers.
