Even the most ardent Milwaukee Bucks fan would find it hard to argue against the idea of the Bucks being a small-market team.
While they have a superstar duo in Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, the organization understands they’re not the premier destination for NBA players. This is why they need to maximize their time with their stars if they want to make a meaningful run for the NBA title in the coming seasons.
Money plays a huge factor in increasing the viability of an NBA franchise. A salary cap may limit what a team can bring to the squad, additional finances can help the Bucks become a more attractive destination for players.
The Bucks are about to get an influx of support as one of their former players want to have a stake in the team and increase the franchise’s overall value.
Junior Bridgeman moves to buy 10% stake of the Milwaukee Bucks
Junior Bridgeman, a former NBA player who became a successful businessman after retirement, is moving to purchase a minority stake in the franchise.
Businessman and former NBA player Ulysses Lee “Junior” Bridgeman is buying a 10% stake in the Milwaukee Bucks, according to three sources familiar with the deal. The transaction will value the team at $4 billion.
Bridgeman, the current owner of Ebony and Jet magazines, is getting a preferred limited partner discount of 15%, or a $3.4 billion valuation, to buy a portion of the team that he played for from 1975 to 1984, the sources said.
He is reported to have a net worth of more than $600 million after finding success in a variety of businesses ranging from fast-food chains to being a Coca-Cola bottling distributor.
Bridgeman joined the Bucks as the eighth overall pick in the 1975 Draft and became a reliable scorer for the franchise. The swingman averaged 13.9 PPG, 3.7 RPG, and 2.5 APG during his 10 seasons with the team.
If the deal goes through, the Bucks will receive the support of a businessman who deeply understands Milwaukee basketball and wants it to succeed. He’s passionate with the Bucks project and will be willing to invest time and money to see his former team succeed in the Finals once again.
