Milwaukee Bucks general manager Jon Horst has received a lot of heat from the fanbase as of late. Wednesday night during the 2024 NBA Draft, the Bucks made a shocking selection by selecting 19-year-old A.J. Johnson in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Johnson was projected to be a late second-round in the 2024 NBA Draft. There were many players that Horst could have selected instead of him with the 23rd pick. Johnson last season only averaged 2.9 points per game in 7.7 minutes per game with the Illawarra Hawks in the Australian NBL’s next star program.
It will be interesting to see if he can make the Bucks roster in the 2024-2025 season. However, this pick feels like a massive reach and they could have done better with this selection than they did.
Milwaukee Bucks Fans Call For General Manager Jon Horst To Be Fired After What Transpired On Wednesday Night In the 2024 NBA Draft
It is not a shock that Bucks fans were up in arms about their selection on Wednesday night during the 2024 NBA Draft. This is how Milwaukee fans responded to the selection made by general manager Jon Horst on Twitter:
Milwaukee Bucks Draft A.J Johnson: Instant Reaction
This is an absolute disaster of a pick
This isn’t what the Bucks need right now. They need a guy. Not a project.
I’m very concerned about Jon Horst’s vision for this offseason. pic.twitter.com/PmLTEw55gp

If they wanted to draft a point guard, they should have drafted Tyler Kolek from the Marquette Golden Eagles instead of A.J. Johnson. At least Kolek played four years in college and is a good basketball player. He would have been a much better choice with this selection than Johnson.
General manager Jon Horst told the media about selecting A.J. Johnson 23rd overall in the 2024 NBA Draft:
“He’s got incredible speed and quickness. He’s a pass first point guard.”
Also, the Milwaukee Bucks fanbase should be concerned about the direction of this basketball team. If they want to draft projects instead of players, they should start over and trade Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard instead of building around them.
Another guard who was available at the 23rd pick was Terrance Shannon Jr. from the Illinois Fighting Illini. Also, winger Johnny Furphy from the Kansas Jayhawks was on the board at the time A.J. Johnson was selected.
Thursday afternoon, the Bucks will have the 33rd overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. General manager Jon Horst can not mess up this selection as there are good players still available with that pick.
