Milwaukee Bucks Host Pre-Draft Workout for Son of NBA Legend

The Milwaukee Bucks have hosted several pre-draft workouts already. Earlier this week, they hosted Shareef O’Neal, the son of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. Previously, O’Neal was believed to have withdrawn his name from the NBA Draft. That, however, was a mistake, as Shams Charania reported:

LSU junior Shareef O'Neal – son of Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal – is now eligible to be selected in the 2022 NBA draft, the league informed teams. A prior list of withdrawals mistakenly included O'Neal. The 6-foot-10 prospect stays in Draft and has upcoming team workouts.

The Athletic‘s Jovan Buha, who covers the Los Angeles Lakers, was on the one who broke the news that Shareef O’Neal had worked out with the Bucks.

Draft prospect Shareef O’Neal has an upcoming workout set with the Lakers, sources tell @TheAthletic. O’Neal worked out for the Bucks today and has scheduled visits to Cleveland, Atlanta and Washington among others. @ShamsCharania reported this week that O’Neal is draft eligible.

Where Will Shareef O’ Neal Be Drafted?

LSU’s Shareef O’Neal is determined to forge his own path to the NBA.

Shareef O’Neal did not have as successful a college career as his legendary father. In three seasons at LSU, Shaquille O’Neal averaged 21.6 points and 13.5 rebounds per game. Of course, he was the first overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic.

In three seasons in college, Shareef O’Neal has carried averages of 2.6 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. He started his college career at UCLA, but transferred to LSU for his sophomore and junior seasons.

Prior to transferring, Shareef O’Neal was diagnosed with a heart condition that required surgery. The recovery process from this surgery was brutal. O’Neal had to learn how to walk again and lost 25 pounds.

After announcing his intention to enter the NBA Draft, Shareef O’Neal was invited to the NBA G-League Elite Camp, which takes place the same weekend as the Draft Combine. In his one scrimmage at the camp, he posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

While he had a great showing in that scrimmage, Shareef O’Neal is still projected to be a second-round NBA Draft pick at best. Many scouts believe that he will go undrafted. If he is drafted or signed by the Milwaukee Bucks (or any other NBA team), he will most likely start out in the NBA G-League.
