Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo is undeniably one of the most unstoppable singular forces in the NBA. He has the tools and the skills to do basically anything on the floor. One thing he also does so greatly in the NBA is dunking the ball. He’s one of the fiercest and meanest dunkers in the league, thanks in large part to his size and length.
Antetokounmpo, however, recently said that he’s not trying to dunk anymore.
“I don’t dunk anymore,” Antetokounmpo told Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “Back in the day, I used to dunk like 10, 12 times a game. Maybe I can’t dunk anymore, I don’t know.”
“I don’t dunk as much,” Antetokounmpo continued. “Today, it wasn’t me dunking, it was Khris (Middleton) giving me like bunnies. It was a lot of bunnies. So this is not — for me — a dunk. The one with the left hand? That’s a dunk for me. Or the one that I jump for the lob from Dame? That’s a dunk. Energy. But OK, I try to be as smart as I can with my body this year and the way I play, ” added Antetokounmpo, who was also referencing the Bucks’ NBA Cup quarterfinals win over Orlando.
Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo remains a dunking machine
Of course, that is hard to believe. According to Basketball-Reference, the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player had 92 dunks already in the 2024-25 NBA regular season heading into Tuesday night’s NBA Cup Championship game in Las Vegas against the Oklahoma City Thunder. In the 2023-24 campaign,m he had 251 dunks — second-most in his career.
