Any trade rumor involving Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Announcement was doused with cold water on Tuesday night when Shams Charania of ESPN said just before the NBA Cup Championship game in Las Vegas.
“There will be no Giannis Antetokounmpo trade this season,” Charania said. “Between the Cup & moving forward… his priority is putting himself in a position where he can have long-term sustained winning wherever that may be. Right now, it’s Milwaukee,” Charania added.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks have turned things around
The discussion about a potential Antetokounmpo trade was at its peak during the early struggles of the Bucks in the 2024-25 NBA regular season.
Milwaukee managed to win just twice in its first 10 games of the campaign, leading many to speculate whether the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player was becoming frustrated to the point that he was thinking of requesting a trade. But as Charania said, it doesn’t seem that the “Greek Freak” is actually wanting a way out of Milwaukee.
The Bucks have seemingly righted the ship. Since their 2-8 start, the Bucks have won 12 of 15 regular-season games — excluding their NBA Cup Championship game win over the Oklahoma City Thunder via a score of 97-81.
Things are looking good again for the Bucks, so perhaps Milwaukee’s recent surge would also lead to reduced Antetokounmpo trade rumors.
Antetokounmpo, who signed a 3 year $175.37 million veteran contract extension with Milwaukee in 2023, is playing at an MVP level this season, averaging 32.7 points, 11.5 rebounds and 6.1 assists per outing while shooting 61.4 percent from the field.
