There’s no need for Milwaukee Bucks fans to panic over their team’s chances of winning a second championship in the Giannis Antetokounmpo era. While the forward is already reaching the tail-end years of his athletic peak, there is still time for the team to chase their second title and secure the Greek Freak’s status as one of the greatest to pick up a basketball.
Their chances will always be great whenever Damian Lillard dons a Bucks jersey. While he hasn’t had a great debut campaign with the Bucks, he’s still widely considered one of the league’s most dangerous point guards. He will always be a danger to opposing teams whenever he has the ball and gets Giannis involved in a pick-and-roll.
However, there’s one thing that can prevent the duo from inflicting maximum damage to their opponents, and one former Bucks player emphasized this to anyone interested in Bucks basketball.
Marques Johnson identified the health of their stars as a roadblock to the Milwaukee Bucks’ playoff hopes
Marques Johnson hasn’t played professional basketball for a long time, but hardcore Milwaukee Bucks fans will remember him for his outstanding stint with the team during the 70s and 80s as a prolific scorer.
Now a TV broadcaster, he reminded everyone that the health of their star players could define whether the Bucks would have a successful season or not.
This is what Johnson had to say, per Give Me Sport’s Andrew Hanlon:
“It’s about health. It’s about staying healthy. Dame staying healthy. Giannis has been hurt in the last two playoffs. That baffles me how people don’t even mention that he’s been pretty much a no-show in the playoffs the last couple of years. They just act like he’s been completely healthy.”
Giannis missed his team’s first-round loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, while Lillard also sat out two games of the series due to injury. However, they should have a better grasp of each other’s play now that they have had an entire offseason together.
Bucks fans hope this will result in a more convincing playoff run come spring, and the health of their stars is directly tied to their chances.
