The Milwaukee Bucks took care of business during free agency. They then brought in a second bona fide superstar in Damian Lillard earlier this summer. On Monday, news broke that Giannis Antetokounmpo agreed to a three-year extension with the team for a whopping $186 million.
At this point, it seems that everything is set for this team to go out and dominate the NBA this coming season.
Giannis Antetokounmpo to Milwaukee Bucks: ‘We’ve Got to Be About It’
Apart from the fact that Terry Stotts resigned from his post as the team’s assistant coach less than a week before the regular season starts, everything went relatively well for Milwaukee this summer. In fact, you could actually make a case that this team won the offseason with all the moves they made.
That’s all paper, though. At this point, the Bucks have not proven anything, and this is exactly the message Giannis Antetokounmpo wants to send to his team ahead of opening night:
“I feel very good about it. I think it’s going to pay off,” he said with a smile about the Lillard trade, via Sam Amick of The Athletic. “But at the end of the day, we’ve got to be about it. We’ve got to play about it. We cannot talk about it.”
The arrival of Damian Lillard is obviously a massive step in the right direction for the Bucks, and they ultimately got their wish of getting Giannis to sign his extension.
Be that as it may, Antetokounmpo himself is adamant that until they are able to achieve their goals this season, all this will be for nothing.
“It’s a beginning,” Antetokounmpo said with a smile.
