News broke on Wednesday that Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has decided to slap luxury mattress brand Maree with a $92,003 lawsuit over a long-standing dispute. According to his camp, the former back-to-back MVP has repeatedly demanded that the company remove his name and his image from all of their marketing materials, to which Maree has refused to adhere.
Giannis clearly isn’t happy and he’s decided to take the battle to court.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Slaps Maree With Lawsuit
According to reports, Giannis ordered several mattresses from Maree, which were shipped to his native of Greece. Antetokounmpo’s camp claims that the beds were damaged upon arrival, which is why he’s refused to pay for the $20,000 shipping fee.
For their part, Maree is denying any wrongdoing with respect to the shipping of their products. They are also claiming that they have had a long-standing relationship with Giannis through the years. Maree supposedly secured the seven-time All-Star’s permission to use his name and his image in their advertising materials in exchange for a discount on his purchase.
For what it’s worth, Maree is a world-famous luxury mattress brand that boasts the likes of LeBron James and Venus and Serena Williams, among others, as clients.
NBA Twitter Reacts
If you think about it, $92,000 is a relatively small amount for Giannis. Considering how he’s set to earn $45.6 million this coming season from the Bucks — not including any and all of his endorsement deals as well as his business dealings outside the basketball court — you could argue that $92,000 is merely loose change for this man.
Either way, it appears to be a matter of principle for Antetokounmpo, and the fans on Twitter are enjoying eating it all up:
