Giannis Antetokounmpo stole away headlines on Monday after news broke that he had agreed to sign an extension with the Milwaukee Bucks. The former NBA MVP previously stated that he intended to wait until next summer before signing a new deal, so it was a surprise that Giannis put pen to paper on an extension one year early.
This came out to a massive $186 million, three-year contract extension that will now see Antetokounmpo extend his stay in Milwaukee for at least three more seasons.
Old Giannis Antetokounmpo Video Resurfaces After Milwaukee Bucks Extension
Giannis’ future with the Bucks was put into question after the seven-time All-Star made it clear that he was willing to leave Milwaukee if his thirst for a championship was not quenched. The front office responded by bringing in All-NBA point guard Damian Lillard, who will now be Antetokounmpo’s superstar partner-in-crime in their quest to bring home a chip this coming season.
As it turns out, Giannis isn’t going anywhere.
Shortly after news of his extension broke, a 10-year-old video of a young Antetokounmpo talking about Milwaukee resurfaced. In it, Giannis, who was then a rookie, hinted about a lengthy career with the Bucks ahead:
“So after I came to Milwaukee, it was more houses, more trees, more green,” he said. “I like that it’s quiet because this is a place that you can get better because you don’t have many distractions. I think I was meant to be here. I love being here, and I think it’s a place that’s going to make me great.”

You could say that this was a full-circle moment for Antetokounmpo, who has now committed his future to the Bucks. He’s now been with the team for more than a decade, and it now appears that it could be another 10 years for him in Milwaukee.
