After a relatively slow start to the season, the Milwaukee Bucks have now won seven out of their last eight games, including Sunday’s impressive comeback victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. At this point, it’s safe to say that this team has found its groove of late as it looks to live up to all the preseason hype.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Sounds Off on Damian Lillard Partnership
It goes without saying that this recent run by the Bucks has been fueled by the squad’s new-found chemistry. In particular, the fact that Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard now appear to be operating on the same page has worked wonders for Milwaukee.
“I feel like we are getting to that point,” Giannis said. “We are really getting to that point. As a teammate, I understand the time that he needs the ball. You gotta give him the ball, man. You gotta get out of his way. Especially when it comes down to the last eight minutes of the game, that’s where he thrives the most. Five, ten games ago, I didn’t know that. Now I understand. I know who I’m dealing with. As I move on forward, I pick up on other things.”
As much as Giannis has been adjusting to Lillard’s game, the same can be said about Dame. It’s a two-way street, and so far, the traffic has been flowing smoothly:
“He’s picking up on things,” Antetokounmpo continued. “So now, we’re trying to figure out ways to kinda complement one another’s game, and I’m happy. He can still be Dame and I can still be Giannis. And I know that when both of us can be ourselves and play with high confidence and get to our spots and become a threat on all the spots on the floor, (it) makes the game easier for our teammates. It puts us in (a) position to win games.”
We all knew that it was only a matter of time before Giannis and Dame would get on the same wavelength. These two are just too great to not figure things out. Now that they have, it’s going to be a problem for the rest of the league.
“At the end of the day, Dame has to be Dame, I have to be me,” Giannis said. “As the game goes on, we’re gonna keep figuring ourselves out. The moment we are clicking even in a higher level, it’s gonna become even more scary, and scary, and scary as we move forward.”
What’s even more frightening is the fact that this partnership is only going to get better from here on out.
