Just a couple of months ago, there was a lot of uncertainty surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future with the Milwaukee Bucks. In fact, there were some who believed that the former back-to-back MVP was already plotting an imminent exit from the team that drafted him as the No. 15 overall pick some 10 years ago.
Well, all that speculation was thrown out the window on Monday after Giannis agreed to sign a massive three-year extension with the Bucks worth $186 million.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Did Not Know Number of Milwaukee Bucks Extension
Giannis spoke to reporters on Tuesday to discuss the massive development surrounding his future in Milwaukee. At one point, the seven-time All-Star revealed that he actually wasn’t aware of how much money he was getting when he signed his new contract:
“It was the first time in my NBA career I didn’t know the number of my contract. I just signed it because I wanted to be here,” he said.

This just goes to show how much Giannis wants to remain in Milwaukee. While he did say previously that he was more than willing to jump ship, the fact that the team responded by going all-in on Damian Lillard this summer has clearly convinced Antetokounmpo that his championship objectives still align with those of the Bucks.
To be fair, it’s not as if Giannis had zero idea how much he was going to pocket with his new deal. After all, there has been a lot of talk surrounding his new contract, particularly when it comes to the money aspect.
Antetokounmpo himself stated earlier this summer that he intended to wait until next year to sign an extension because it makes better sense from a financial standpoint. Simply put, this man has a pretty good understanding of his financial situation. He probably just put his full trust in his agent to iron out a deal with the Bucks front office that will align with Giannis’ expectations.
Be that as it may, this does not take away from the fact that Giannis has now put his money where his mouth is. He demanded that the Bucks make the necessary moves to help him contend for a title this coming season, and now that they have, Antetokounmpo responded by committing his future to the team.
