It is fairly likely that Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has played his final game of the 2024-25 regular season. On Friday night, Giannis and the Bucks defeated the Detroit Pistons 125-119, clinching the fifth seed in the NBA Eastern Conference ahead of the upcoming playoffs. With just one game remaining in the year, Milwaukee may choose to rest Giannis and their other key players as they cannot move up or down in the standings.
Of course, the Greek Freak led the way on Friday, posting his fourth triple-double in five games. He had 32 points, 11 rebounds, and 15 assists to go with a steal and a block. It was his 11th triple-double of the season, a new franchise record, breaking the old mark of 10 which he set last year.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Joins an Elite List of Players

Giannis and the Bucks have been cautious with his health this season. While he did miss a string of games due to a calf injury, the two-time NBA MVP did play in enough games to qualify for postseason awards and honors. According to a new NBA rule, players must appear in a minimum of 65 games to be considered for awards like MVP and honors like All-NBA Teams.
Giannis has played 67.
In the 67 games he has played this year, the heart and soul of Milwaukee averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game. What makes these numbers even more astounding is that he has accomplished them while shooting 60% from the field.
In the history of the NBA, there has only been one other instance in which a player averaged 30 or more points per game while shooting 60% from the field. That was last year. When Giannis did it for the first time. Now he has done it twice.
Incredibly, he is not even considered to be a top-two favorite to win the NBA MVP this year despite his historic season. Adding to the history is this fun-fact that was shared on the league’s broadcast on Friday night:

Once the regular season concludes, Giannis will become the third player in NBA history to average 30+ points and 10+ rebounds in a season for at least three consecutive years. The other two to do were Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Chamberlain accomplished the feat by averaging over 30 points and 10 rebounds in each of the first nine seasons of his career. Abdul-Jabbar did it in his second through fourth seasons in the NBA, which, of course, he spent in Milwaukee.
Interestingly, this could have been Giannis’ fourth consecutive season with those averages. However, in 2021-22, he averaged 29.9 points per game, just missing out on that 30 points per game average. He also averaged 11.6 rebounds that season.
