Still sidelined by a calf strain, Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo will not fulfill his All-Star selection on the court this weekend. He will still be there coaching the All-Celebrity team featuring Shams Charania, but on the active roster, the NBA has selected Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox as Antetokounmpo’s replacement. At least among his San Antonio teammates, that rectifies a considerable snub after Raptors forward Brandon Ingram got the nod to replace Steph Curry, who is out with a knee injury.

Fox flies in as newest member of Team Stripes, replacing Giannis Antetokounmpo
The selection is only the second of Fox’s accomplished nine-year career; his other All-Star bid came three years ago, when Fox won Comeback Player of the Year in Sacramento.
His 2025-26 stats aren’t quite as impressive, but still, he has served as Victor Wembanyama’s co-star to lead San Antonio to a 38-16 first-half record.
Overall, Fox is averaging 19.2 points, 6.3 assists, and 1.3 steals in his first full season as a Spur following last year’s deadline blockbuster. As far as his volume stats, it’s worth noting that he is playing his fewest nightly minutes since 2019-20, in large part due to San Antonio’s remarkable guard depth. Aside from his other All-Star season, Fox is easily contributing the most win shares per 48 minutes (0.137 per-48, 4.1 overall) of his career.
Because of yet another new All-Star format – does anyone really know how this all works? – replacing Giannis isn’t a neat swap. In the round-robin tournament, Antetokounmpo would have represented Team World.
Fox was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, went to high school in Texas, and played college ball at Kentucky. He will take a reserve spot on Team Stripes, one of two American-player teams loosely defined by aging legends (LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Curry were all Stripes) and their young successors on Team Stars (Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Maxey, Cade Cunningham).
Giannis, meanwhile, will sit out the on-court action of his 10th straight All-Star game, resting up for his Bucks return after the break.
